D' Drum is a five member
percussion group from Dallas, Texas. Featured
in an Emmy award winning
PBS short film that documents their travels and
observations as related to World Percussion,
the group has performed and recorded
extensively.
D'Drum is heard in the National
Geographic Film, "Lions of Darkness", in addition
to the award winning PBS children's show
"Wishbone".
The group's first CD,
entitled "Village Beside Time",
brought international attention, and led to the winning
of the Drum! Magazine 2002
Reader’s Poll award winner for
Runner-Up, Best Percussion Ensemble .
As in their live performances,
both the the 1st CD and the new one feature music derived
from traditional cultures of Bali, Africa, Persia,
and other locales that are blended with the influences of
Western Classical and Jazz forms. All of
the instruments featured on the CD
and in performance are acoustic, and of traditional and
contemporary design.
Each of the members of D'Drum
is quite busy with various musical responsibilities in addition
to D'Drum; Ron
Snider and Doug Howard are performers with the Dallas
Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Doug, Jamal
and Ed Smith are active in teaching and accompanying at
SMU and UNT as well as playing in various professional musical
situations. John Bryant is a principal with Bryant-Hames
Music, a production company specializing in music for
